H&M Company, Inc. is a national engineering and construction firm offering a full range of Plan-Design-Build services for projects throughout North America. We were founded in 1957 near Jackson, Tennessee, and we’re still headquartered there today.

Safety is not just a statistic at H&M – it’s a core value. A zero incident policy permeates throughout our entire organization, from our President to every person involved in a H&M project. The stated goal: ‘All accidents are intolerable and we will strive to eliminate all such incidents.’
H&M Company’s safety program began in 1974 to provide a safe and productive work environment for everyone on our sites. Through the years, H&M has continuously expanded and improved this program through the guidance of our in-house safety professionals, our president and chief operating officer.
Unlike most general contractors, H&M self-performs much of our work which makes our focus on safety more critical and our safety record more indicative of our care and concern of safety on our projects.
H&M is proud of the recent recognition by the Associated Builders and Contractors of our commitment to provide a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, as well as the number of safe hours worked by our team for operating 1,011,232 employee work hours without occupational injury or illness involving days away from work, by the National Safety Council. Believing that target zero is achievable, we strive daily to instill a safety mindset in everything we do.

Over 68 Years of History
H&M was founded by Charles R. “Chicken” Fite in 1957. Today, a third generation of the Fite family is a part of the H&M family. H&M remains a privately owned corporation.
H&M has long since broadened the scope of our services to include real estate development services as well as site selection assistance, comprehensive design capabilities including installation of heavy machinery, process equipment, concrete, electrical, HVAC and plumbing, just to name a few.
Despite our tremendous growth over the years, we have never lost sight of our original belief that an Owners confidence in the capabilities of his general contractor should not come at a premium. We believe that the reputation of H&M for technical competence, and quality construction and design “on schedule and at competitive prices” is assurance of our know-how. “Building Better Communities” is a big part of what we do here at H&M. We do this on a daily basis by building better careers for our team and by building high-quality and sustainable facilities that help support businesses and their communities across the country for decades to come. The H&M Foundation was established in 2022 to provide a way for H&M to give back to our own local West Tennessee communities in reliable, long-term, and significant ways.
