1957

Founded by Charles R.
(Chicken) Fite

1963

First Design-Build industrial project – manufacturing facility for ITT(International Telephone & Telegraph)

1964

Started Owen’s Engineering Company, our in-house architectural/engineering company and formed one of the first design-build firms in the nation

1974

Awarded design and construction contract for FULLER BRUSH to consolidate multiple manufacturing facilities into one fully integrated facility in Great Bend, Kansas

1975

Awarded the first Construction Management contract to manage a public school building program in the State of Tennessee

1983

First Design – Build Lease project

1985

Awarded nationally sought design-build contract for 1M square foot, highly automated distribution facility for General Motors in Fort Worth, Texas

1990

Entrance into the steel industry with the design and construction of 3 turnkey steel galvanizing facilities including facilities for U.S. Steel, Kobe Steel, and Bethlehem/National Steel.

1999

Awarded contract to build Kinder Morgan power facility – first combined cycle power facility -
Self-performed 100% of the work

2001

Entry into Cement Industry with award of Ash Grove Cement in Chanute, Kansas

2006

Introduced LEAN Design and Construction practices on H&M projects

2007

H&M has LEED accredited professional engineers on staff to assist its clients in applying LEED standards and practices to their construction projects.

2008

First windfarm project.

2010

Completed our largest build-to-suit lease project: adidas Group.
